Der Astronom Herschel hat sich intensiv mit der Mathematik beschäftigt. Angeregt wurde er dazu von der mathematischen Musiktheorie. Denn eigentlich ist er Musiker gewesen.
Auf der Briefmarke ist sein Riesenspiegelteleskop dargestellt.

Halleyscher Komet (1986)
Edmond Halley hatte einen Lehrstuhl für Geometrie. Für die Orientierung auf See entwickelte er ein neues Verfahren, mit dem er die Laufbahn von Kometen berechnen konnte. Seine Vermutung, dass der von ihm untersuchte Komet zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt wieder beobachtbar sein sollte, bestätigte sich. Unzählige Länder haben dem Erscheinen des Kometen eine Briefmarke gewidmet.

Halley's comet (1986)
Edmond Halley was professor in geometry. He worked out a procedure that allowed the calculation of comet's orbit. This way it was possible for him to make a forecast for the appearance of a certain comet. Thic comet is now named after him. - The event of the appearance of Halley's comet has been celebrated all over the world and countless countries issued stamps with regard to it.

Die Briefmarke versammelt einige der tragischen Figuren der Raketenforschung im Dienste der Nazis, die später teilweise trotz politischer und moralischer Bedenken für die Amerikaner engagiert wurden. Unter ihnen ist auch der Visionär der Raketenforschung, Oberth. - Es ist wohl kein Zufall, dass Paraguay, ein beliebter Aufenthaltsort zahlreicher Nazis, diese Briefmarken herausgab.

The stamp shows a crowd of tragic figures of the German rocket science. Despite political and moral reservations some of them were hired by the Americans. Among them is also the visionary, Oberth. - It is probably no coincidence Paraguay, a favorite whereabouts of numerous Nazis, issued this set.
